Perhaps I am reading too...Thanks. Enjoyed the post.
Perhaps I am reading too much into a part of it, but I extrapolated humans conquering harsh terrains in the equation - such as the case of pioneering explorers- ( even modern day ones) who seem to fit the description of leadersAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2027286527219515017.post-78563301373050681082011-08-25T00:48:57.376-07:002011-08-25T00:48:57.376-07:00I would agree that any (human) population will com...I would agree that any (human) population will comprise of leaders and socials (as well as some others). I found some sentences in the paper to be particularly true:
'Individuals (typically leaders) who either tend to occupy frontal positions or travel alone may be more susceptible to predation or pay higher energetic costs through increased vigilance. They might also fail to exploit socially facilitated environmental change, such as moving where others have trampled through vegetation, as in ungulates.'

As for human migration and habitat fragmentation: prior to the age of transportation, I suppose that habitat fragmentation might have reduced human migration, unless the humans were desperate. In the current age, I doubt if this holds- practically, all regions are accessible.

-SLSSarahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2027286527219515017.post-72845211704737713912011-08-24T15:59:58.609-07:002011-08-24T15:59:58.609-07:00Very interesting theory, thank you!
